Keep the Humane Work for Humans - What is your AI Strategy?

You’ve probably spent an inordinate amount of time contemplating how AI can work for your business and where it makes sense to implement it - it’s hard to go anywhere, without hearing the words ‘artificial intelligence’.

The reality is that AI is still in an early stage of adoption. We are just at the beginning of a revolution - in many ways, it is like the moment that the iPhone suddenly opened the universe to what you can do with your phone. Today, if you ask a company if they have a strategy for their mobile software, it’s like asking if they have security controls in place (and if both of those questions make you wonder if you have them - we are more than happy to help with both)!

Understanding your business’s position on AI

The first thing to bear in mind is that just because you are in the earliest stages of adoption, does not mean you are doing anything wrong.

The Innovation Maturity Scale allows organisations to rank themselves on the strength of their innovation maturity, defined in eight stages. Stage one represents the lowest level of innovation maturity while stage eight is the highest, where innovation is central to an organisation’s DNA. Each step builds upon the last, laying a foundation for continued progress and company-wide adoption.

Your company will be somewhere on that continuum and very few companies are at the point of mastery. Adoption and rollout of AI tools is just another part of that maturity, and your proficiency, company culture, and regulatory guardrails will help you understand where and what you should be doing.

Understanding the current state of play regarding AI adoption in your business – as well as where you want to go – is vital to ensuring a well-defined AI strategy that’ll help you move through the levels of innovation maturity smoothly.

Taking a longer-term view of how your business will move from basic exploration of AI tools through to a complete culture of innovation will ensure that AI adoption is handled correctly and in a scalable manner, with defined processes and governance frameworks.

Integrating AI into your technology strategy

At TDS, we believe that the same approach to crafting outstanding software should apply to how you integrate AI into your business. From initial discovery through to project completion and training for your internal team, we look to help you define a long-term strategy on AI integration and deliver a step-by-step program on how to achieve your goals.

If you’re looking to increase the level of AI adoption in your business, there are a number of initial questions to ask yourself:

What is the core deliverable you are seeking to achieve?

Is this going to be an H1, H2 or H3 endeavour for you?

Do you have core competencies inside our firm to achieve this, or are trusted advisors required?

What investment are you willing to make in this space?

Are your competitors ahead of you?

These are some initial questions that we would ask of our clients in an AI Discovery Session. From here, we start to tease out what your goals are, and what tools and integrations can we help you utilise, to drive the short- and long-term results you want.

Establishing this deeper level of understanding will help us deliver a more in-depth strategy for AI adoption. But it’ll also help us understand which areas of your business don’t need AI integration – just yet, anyway.

Rushing AI adoption for departments or business functions that don’t have the right infrastructure and protocols in place to handle it properly will create more problems than ever. Thankfully, our consultants can support with every aspect of the process.

Marc Andreesen famously said “Software is eating the world”. Today, AI is eating software.
